PolyureaProtective Coatings

Build your checklist

Choose what your surface faces and where it lives. The list updates as you go. It runs in your browser and nothing is sent anywhere.

01What does the surface face?
02What is the surface?
03Where does it live?

Your checklist

  1. Get the product data sheet and safety data sheet for every layer in the system.
  2. Agree the film thickness range and how it will be measured on site.
  3. Write down who prepares the surface, who applies the coating and who inspects it.
  4. Plan a small test area or adhesion pull test before the full job.
  5. Mark heavy traffic lanes and consider extra thickness or texture there.
  6. Specify blast cleanliness and profile for steel, and the time allowed before coating.
  7. Detail edges, welds, bolts and penetrations with stripe coats.
  8. Ask how the coating behaves under impact at the lowest expected temperature.
  9. List every chemical, its strength and temperature, and check each against the data sheet.
  10. Confirm whether exposure is splash, spill or full immersion.
  11. Confirm the product is rated for immersion and, for drinking water, carries the needed approvals.
  12. Plan how joints, drains, cracks and penetrations will be bridged or sealed.
  13. Use only assemblies tested for blast or fragment retention, with engineering sign off.
  14. Grind or blast concrete, repair cracks and test moisture before priming.
  15. Fill voids and seal pores in block with the specified primer.
  16. Check moisture content of wood and set all fasteners.
  17. Test adhesion to the old coating, or plan to remove it.
  18. Add a colour stable aliphatic topcoat where the surface sits in sun.
  19. Ventilate and plan supplied air or the respirator named on the safety data sheet.
  20. Check surface and air temperature against dew point, and keep material heated in the lines.

How to use it

Questions, not answers

The list collects the questions a sound specification usually answers. Take it to the coating supplier, the applicator and the engineer, and keep the replies with the job records. Products and rules vary, so the data sheets have the final say.
